I’m Trine, I am the 4th generation of the Wulff-Nilsen family at Hamnøy. My great grandfather, Rones Olai Nilsen came to Hamnøy from the Norwegian mainland in 1874 with his wife, Marie Anna Wulff, and together they established a general store and traded fish. It is claimed that my great-grandfather, who was a church singer, was also a good poker player. He is said to have won the fishing village of Hamnøy in a poker game, and gave it to his daughter and son-in-law in a wedding present. My great-grandfather was a very religious man, so he built a prayer house on the site before he built the main house. He wanted the fishermen to follow their faith even in the long months away from home fishing. The fishing village became very popular with the long-distance fishermen, mostly due to the good harbour conditions, but also because of the help they received in the form of shelter and access to groceries. They were provided with everything they needed. My grandparents continued the business, followed by my mother and father. In addition to fishing and a general store, my family operated a telephone exchange and post office, they sold coal and were also an oil dealer for Shell. https://static1.squarespace.com/static/5ec7aef104c57646fa549c98/t/5eca1bc7e7d73d6dee097a53/1590408941084/176253556.jpg About Us - Respecting the old, with the new My family sold the businesses in the 90s, but in 2013 I had the opportunity to buy the land where our holiday home is today. My husband Ingvar has always wanted to build a place for us on Hamnøya. When we were offered the plot, at first glance it looked both too small and too steep. But when we saw the spectacular view, we knew that was where our house was going to be. The first idea of what the house should look like came from Ingvar; "It should be modern and practical, but it should not conflict with the surroundings." We think Lurn Sjøhus blends well into the landscape, with a nice transition from old to new. The angles on the facade are copied from other buildings inside the harbour. The house was completed in December 2016, and we celebrated the first Christmas there. This was the start of tourism in this part of Lofoten, and in the early 70s it was a popular and somewhat exotic destination for English, Italian and French travellers, as well as Germans who enjoyed fishing. When I was younger, I worked with the tourists. I loved the activity that the influx of travellers created, and I believe that’s what encouraged me to rent out our home in Lurn, Hamnøy. Sammen etablerte de landhandel og startet med oppkjøp av fisk. Usikre kilder påstår at min tippoldefar som var kirkesanger, i tillegg var en habil pokerspiller. Han skal angivelig ha vunnet fiskeværet Hamnøy i et pokerspill, og ga det til sin datter og svigersønn i bryllupsgave. Min oldefar var en veldig religiøs mann, og bygget derfor bedehus på stedet før han bygde hovedhuset. Han ville at fiskerne skulle kunne følge sin gudstro i de lange månedene på fiske hjemmefra. Fiskeværet ble veldig populært blant de langveisfarende fiskerne, mye grunnet gode havneforhold, men også på grunn av det tilbudet de fikk i form av husly og tilgang på dagligvarer. Det lille samfunnet ble forsynt med alt de trengte. Mine besteforeldre videreførte forretningen, etterfulgt av min mor og far. I tillegg til fiskebruk og butikk, drev familien min telefonsentral og postkontor, de solgte kull og var også oljeforhandler for Shell. https://static1.squarespace.com/static/5ec7aef104c57646fa549c98/t/5ecbb6edd6d7ad4f6c3fd02e/1590303708631/176253556.jpg Om Oss - Respektere overgangen fra tradisjonelle rorbu stil til mer moderne byggestil Familien min solgte virksomhetene på 90-tallet, men i 2013 fikk jeg muligheten til å kjøpe tomta der feriehuset vårt står i dag. Min mann Ingvar har alltid ønsket å bygge et sted for oss på Hamnøya. Da vi ble tilbudt tomta, så den ved første øyekast både for liten og for bratt ut. Men- da vi fikk se den spektakulære utsikten, visste vi at det var her huset vårt skulle ligge. Den første ideen om hvordan huset skulle se ut, kom fra Ingvar; «Det skal være moderne og praktisk, men det skal ikke komme i konflikt med omgivelsene.» Vi synes Lurn Sjøhus glir godt inn i landskapet, med en fin overgang fra gammel til ny stil. Vinklene på fasaden er kopiert fra andre bygg inne i havnen. Huset stod ferdig i desember 2016, og vi feiret den første jula der. Dette var starten på turismen i denne delen av Lofoten, og på begynnelsen av 70-tallet var det et populært og noe eksotisk reisemål for engelske, italienske og franske reisende, samt tyskere som likte fiske. Da jeg var yngre jobbet jeg mye med turistene. Jeg elsket aktiviteten som tilstrømningen av reisende skapte, og jeg tror det var det som oppmuntret meg til å leie ut huset vårt i Lurn, Hamnøy.
